The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS, Minister OH Youngju) announced that it will hold the ‘Global Innovation Special Zone Mobile Legal Support Seminar’ over two weeks in four regions: Jeonnam, Busan, Chungbuk, and Gangwon. The seminars will take place from October 14 (Monday) to October 23 (Wednesday).

The series will start on October 14 in Mokpo, Jeonnam, followed by Busan on October 16, Chungju, Chungbuk, and Chuncheon, Gangwon, on October 23. During these legal support seminars, the Global Innovation Special Zone Legal Support Group will provide legal education aimed at mitigating risks associated with international business ventures and protecting intellectual property. The group will also listen to and address the legal and institutional challenges faced by businesses in these zones.

Global innovation special zones are equipped with a support system for overseas operations, including international joint R&D and overseas validation, to promote the global reach of advanced products and services. Preventing unforeseen legal risks during collaborations with foreign businesses, universities, and research institutions is of utmost importance.

The legal support group will provide security training tailored to each special zone to prevent technology leaks and intellectual property infringement. They will assess factors such as the presence of national core technologies within related companies and whether export activities are involved during overseas validation and certification. Beyond firms in global innovation special zones, other SMEs and startups in regional regulatory-free zones can also participate in the security training. After the educational sessions, a Q&A will be held to resolve queries related to technology protection legal issues.

The findings from this seminar and legal consultations with global innovation special zone enterprises will be published in documents such as a ‘Risk Response Manual by Issue,’ which can serve as references for both special zone businesses and other SMEs or startups. It is expected that this initiative will also benefit similarly positioned SMEs with aspirations to expand internationally.
